Welcome! My name is Angela and I’ve been writing and editing for eighteen years. I established Wren Editorial to partner with authors in every stage of the writing process, from the thrill of a newly hatched manuscript to the querying trenches. Editing and revision has always been my favorite part of the process, and it is a privilege to be entrusted with your stories. I specialize in fantasy and speculative fiction, but will happily consider all genres of fiction.

Your book is the culmination of years of dreaming, plotting, research, diligence, and a whole lot of heart. You have a unique perspective and voice. As an editor, I work to preserve and enhance this voice, so your story is the immersive experience your readers crave. I especially enjoy providing a big-picture perspective to your plot, characters, language, pacing, and theme, but I love the nuts and bolts of language as well.

A little more about me: I’m a member of the Editorial Freelance Association. I have two traditionally published books, and I’m agented by Stephanie Hansen of Metamorphosis Literary Agency. I’ve been through the query and submission processes and can provide firsthand industry insight and authorial encouragement.

Query Package Critique

This service offers a fine-tuning of your query letter, synopsis, and the hook of your story, increasing its market appeal. Flat rate of $250 includes: Two-pass query letter critique, Two-pass synopsis critique, first 50 pages evaluation (one pass, 12,500 words)

I’ll review your materials, assessing the effectiveness of your hook, the clarity of your plot summary, strengths, and opportunities.

 

Manuscript Evaluation

A manuscript analysis of big picture storytelling elements such as plot, structure, pacing, characterization, theme, worldbuilding, voice, readability, consistency, and point of view. This feedback is provided in a separate document, with actionable revision suggestions detailing strengths and opportunities for development. Also includes recommended resources, a one-hour video call to discuss questions, and the opportunity for 3 follow-up questions via email.

Developmental Edit

This analysis is a more in-depth evaluation of your manuscript, focusing in on the same big-picture storytelling elements as a manuscript evaluation (plot, structure, pacing, characterization, theme, worldbuilding, voice, readability, consistency, and point of view). Leaving comments through the manuscript, I will provide insight on how to improve your story, as well as encouragement to keep you motivated. Also included is a manuscript evaluation in a separate report with revision suggestions, a one-hour video call, and the opportunity for 6 follow-up questions via email.

Rereads

I also provide rereads of revised manuscripts which have already undergone a developmental edit. This service includes feedback on completed revisions and suggestions for next steps in a separate report.

Line Editing

This service refines an already revised manuscript for rhythm and flow, with special attention to repetition, wordiness, or awkward sentence structure that will distract a reader from your amazing story. I also provide a style sheet for further guidance, as well as annotations and inline comments.

Copy Editing

This service provides minor corrections for grammar, capitalization, spelling, as well as consistency and some light fact-checking. Includes an annotated copy of your document.
