Daughter of Neverwoode is the third in The Chronicles of Fayble series, written by Britt Cooper and Erin Dulin. If you’ve read any of the earlier books, you’ll know this sister-author-duo has a knack for fresh fairytale retellings, and DoN is no different. In a gender bent Peter Pan/Snow White retelling we delve into Petra’s story, whom we met in Mistress of Blades, along with her companion Ffion. We also encounter James Much from Queen of Shadows, who has now been dubbed James Hook and taken up the role of captaining his own ship into swashbuckling adventures.
After separate journeys, James and Petra’s paths collide in the kingdom of Neverwoode, which is shrouded in a mysterious protection from the outer world, but enslaved from within. Dangers abound and romantic sparks fly in a tale that entwines action and adventure; family strife, redemption, and found family; beloved characters new and old; and a longshot mission to win freedom for an entire realm. My favorite part of the book is the chemistry between Petra and James, as well as the seafaring chapters. I especially enjoyed the creative twist on Snow White’s mirror (is Aeric going to be in the next book?), and Ben the crocodile! I’m looking forward to seeing what characters/adventures await within the next Fayble book.
A big thank you to the authors for the ARC and the chance to read this book before its release!
